Standing Committees

Information about standing committees of the Local.

The Grievance Committee is a standing committee of Stewards’ Council responsible for coordinating the processing of grievances, advising and assisting the Grievance Officer in matters involving grievances and grievance policy and making recommendations to the Executive regarding arbitration of grievances and/or continued carriage of grievances.  The committee is chaired by the Grievance Officer, and comprised of the Chair of the Local, the eight Grievance Divisional Stewards and the Unit Stewards.

The Mobilization Committee (MobCom) is a standing committee of Stewards’ Council responsible for planning and carrying out the mobilisation efforts of the Local through unit and campus orientations, departmental and campus information sessions and by assisting Bargaining Support Committees in bargaining years.  The ex-officio members of MobCom include the Unit Vice-Chairs (who serve as committee co-chairs), the Mobilization Division Stewards, Campus Stewards, Unit 2 Steward, Unit 4 Stewards, the International Steward and the Undergraduate Steward.  This is an open committee; members who wish to get involved can contact vc1 [at] cupe3902.org or vc3 [at] cupe3902.org.

The Policy Committee is a standing committee of Stewards’ Council responsible for reviewing and formulating Local procedural policies, subject to review and approval by Stewards’ Council.  The committee is chaired by the Chief Steward, the Chair (or Chair’s designate), one Unit Vice-Chair and three (3) Stewards elected by Stewards’ Council representing at least two of the four bargaining units.

Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC) are labour-management committees enshrined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.  The Local has the legal right to representation on all of the UofT’s JHSCs: the Local trains volunteers and your time on such committees is treated as work time (i.e. it is paid).  Please contact ilo [at] cupe3902.org if you are interested in serving on a JHSC.
