CUPE 3902 News
The Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902, is the trade union that represents sessionals, TAs, and other contract instructional staff at the UofT, in three units. Visit us in our office in Suite 803 of 180 Bloor St West (8th floor).
Post Docs apply to join CUPE
On Wednesday July 22, post doctoral fellows at the University of Toronto made application at the Labour Board to join CUPE.
Best in class!
According to data recently released by the Labour Program of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, the recent Unit 1 Collective Agreement at UofT had the highest wage increase in the Education, Health and Social Services field in Ontario in 2009 (and, excluding settlements in oil and gas rich Alberta and Newfoundland, the highest in Canada). Congrats to our bargaining team!
CUPE 3902 defends post-docs
The University of Toronto may see post-docs as the low-wage, non-unionized labour pool of the future; we disagree. While the employer asserts that education work is a zero sum game - where if a post-doc gets a job, it means a grad student doesn’t - we know that both groups of educators can thrive at this university. CUPE 3902 invites the University into a conversation about how post-docs can be exposed to more teaching opportunities without disadvantaging another group.
Downtown office hours
The downtown Union office at 180 Bloor St West, Suite 803, is normally open for drop-in advice or by appointment. Regular office hours are: Mondays 1pm-4pm; Tuesday through Thursday 10am-4pm; and Fridays 10am-1pm. Dental claims may be slipped through the office mailslot even when the office is closed. CUPE 3902 also operates offices at the suburban campuses...
