New Advancement Rules in Music

This summer the Union negotiated new provisions for Unit 3 members in Music allowing members to count studio music instruction in order to establish eligibility for advancement.

The Faculty of Music employs a large number of sessional lecturers. A significant number of these members also teach individual music students enrolled in the Faculty. This individual music instruction is a core teaching function of the Faculty of Music. Until this summer none of that teaching counted when members went to apply for advancement to sessional lecturer II or III (ranks that pay more and have greater job security). The Faculty and the Union had collegial discussions this summer and agreed to a pilot project for the duration of this collective agreement. See the documents/unit 3 section of the website for full details.
