Union Service Opportunities

CUPE 3902 is building its organizational capacity to allow for casual, union-service opportunities for political members of the Local to support its ongoing contract negotiations and organizing campaigns.  

We're currently seeking applications for the following positions:

  • Deadline: January 24, 2025, 11:59PM. 
    Position Starts: ASAP. 
    Position Ends: April 30, 2025. 
    Number of Positions: At least two (2) positions.

    Bargaining Table Note-Taker: This position is to take near-verbatim notes from discussions at the bargaining tables for contract negotiations for units 2, 3, 4, 6, 7. Candidates do not need to be members of those specific units but must be members of the Local in good standing.  

    Tasks include:

    • Attending in-person meetings of CUPE 3902 Bargaining Teams and the Employer (downtown Toronto). 

    • Note-taking, distribution, and filing of minutes for the Local’s bargaining teams with the Employer during contract negotiations. 

    Applicants for this role should be organized; professional in their dealings with members and the employers; available to attend days at the bargaining table; and proficient in Word Processing. Ability to type quickly with high accuracy is an asset. 

    Note-takers will be handling sensitive information.  They must be able to maintain strict confidentiality in dealing with this information, which includes, amongst other things, bargaining proposals tabled by the Union and the Employer, financial information about the University, as well as internal bargaining committee discussions. 

    For the completion of duties associated with the position, the Bargaining Table Note-Taker will be paid at a rate of $25/hour plus 4% vacation pay, in the period beginning upon signing and ending April 30, 2025. Work will be either half-days or full days (4 or 8 hours, respectively). Lunch during bargaining days will be provided. Work is on-site.

  • Member Mobilizers work to amplify CUPE 3902’s presence on campus through, one-on-one conversations with workers, supporting department stewards, facilitating departmental meetings, and generally assisting in your Local’s organizing efforts.

    Task include, but aren’t limited to:

    • Going to members in their places of work, or other sites on campus, to build engagement in the campaign and the Local.

    • Organizing and implementing events, rallies, and structure tests that build towards creating a high-participation Local.

    • Creating and circulating information (print, digital, video etc.) about bargaining, postsecondary education.

    • Creating materials and organize distribution and postering of leaflets and posters.

    • Assisting stewards in organizing and planning union meetings and information sessions.

    • Develop and present bargaining information sessions to members and train additional members to run them.

    The hourly rate for these positions is $25/hour plus 4% vacation pay, and work commitments range from 8 to 40 hours a week, depending on the campaign. Only members in good standing of CUPE 3902 are eligible to apply.

  • Phone Bankers will conduct targeted calls to members of your Local to inform them of ongoing campaigns. You will be supported by a script, a team, and the guidance of Officers and organizers.

    The hourly rate for these positions is $25/hour plus 4% vacation pay, and work commitments range from 8 to 40 hours a week, depending on the campaign. Only members in good standing of CUPE 3902 are eligible to apply.
