CUPE 3902 Stands in Solidarity with CUPW

The Executive Committee of CUPE 3902 stands in solidarity with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) as the federal government unfairly intervenes in their right to collectively bargain with their employer.

Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon’s decision to refer the dispute to the Canada Industrial Relations Board demonstrates a blatant disregard for the legitimate demands of 55,000 workers. Moreover, the Liberal government has ordered workers to cease their legal job action, return to work, and remain on the job without enacting back-to-work legislation. This effectively compels them to work under a contract that expired over a year ago—amidst the current affordability crisis. These actions reflect a troubling pattern of dismissing the basic needs of the working class while defending corporate interests. This approach is not only concerning but blatantly oppressive to unionized workers and must be condemned.

CUPW members deserve a fair contract which includes a living wage, proper benefits, and job security, while having their employer and the government respect their right to collectively bargain and strike in good faith, free from intimidation and circumvention of these constitutionally protected rights. An attack on postal workers is an attack on all workers, and we stand in solidarity with CUPW and their denouncement of the Liberal government’s actions.

In solidarity,
The Executive Committee of CUPE 3902
