Be a Joint Health & Safety Committee Rep!
Q: Interested in becoming a CUPE 3902 Joint Health and Safety (JHSC) rep?
Duties of CUPE 3902 JHSC reps include:
Attending and actively participating in quarterly JHSC meetings.
Conducting at least one workplace health and safety inspection per year.
Attending the monthly CUPE 3902 JHSC Council meeting.
Vigorously advocating for CUPE 3902 workers by raising H&S concerns with the employer, working with the JHSC committee to improve H&S, insisting the JHSC and employer both meet their legal obligations under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), etc.
These are not unpaid volunteer positions! The employer is legally obligated to financially reimburse JHSC reps at their current wage (or provide equivalent time off for salaried workers) for their time in attending JHSC meetings, preparation meetings, workplace inspections, orientation, certification and training.
