CUPE 3902 Mourns Another Death at Bahen
The Executive Committee was shocked and saddened to learn of a yet another suicide in the Bahen Centre this Friday. This is the fourth confirmed death by suicide on the St. George campus since last June.
We are devastated to lose a student, a part of the U of T community. Our thoughts are with this student’s family, friends, and classmates. Our thoughts are also with the workers who were on the scene: first responders and caretakers. The work you do is meaningful and appreciated.
On Monday, September 30th, there will be a drop-in space in front of Bahen (40 St George St) for community members to come together. This space is intended to provide community members an opportunity to share mental health-related experiences, support, and resources. Light refreshments will be available. Questions, comments, or accessibility needs can be emailed to utmhpolicy@gmail.com. Follow the U of T Mental Health Policy Council’s Facebook page to stay informed about future student-led actions.
All members of CUPE 3902 are entitled to bereavement leaves, compassionate leaves, sick leaves, and leaves for serious illness/hospitalization. If you are unsure about how to access mental health resources and leaves provided by the union, we are here to make the process easier for you and fight for any accommodations you may need.
In solidarity,
The Executive Committee
