CUPE 3902 Mourns Death on Campus and Offers Support to Members
The Executive Committee was shocked and saddened to learn of another death on campus in the Bahen Centre on the St. George campus. It was less than a year ago that we faced a similar tragedy.
We are devastated to lose a student, a part of the U of T community. This loss will be felt by the community for quite some time, and we feel for the student groups who feel the loss of one of their members. Our thoughts are with this student’s family and friends, and with those impacted by last year’s tragedy who find themselves living through these emotions again.
Our thoughts are also with the workers who were on the scene: first responders and caretakers. The work you do is meaningful and appreciated.
We are here for members of CUPE 3902 who are experiencing difficult emotions as a result of this loss and encourage members to reach out if they are in distress. All units are entitled to bereavement leaves, compassionate leaves, sick leaves, and leaves for serious illness/hospitalization. If you are unsure about how to access mental health resources and leaves provided by the union, we are here to make the process easier for you and fight for any accommodations you may need.
In solidarity,
The Executive Committee
