Hi folks,

In our meeting last night, Unit 1 members voted unanimously in support of  a February 26th strike deadline. The strike deadline is the date by which job action will commence if we have not reached a tentative agreement for a new contract with the Employer.

It’s crucial that we build our power in the coming days to show the Employer, U of T, that we’re serious about our demands and will not give up fighting until our Bargaining Team brings us back a strong tentative agreement that addresses our major bargaining issues.

To show the U of T that we are strong and united, we need you to do THREE things for your Bargaining Team:

1. Get active on social media!
Tomorrow, 24 January, our Bargaining Team returns to conciliation with the Employer, and we need to show our support on campus for them by wearing CUPE colours—bright blue and white. Take a photo and post it on Instagram, Twitter, and/or Facebook tomorrow, 24 Jan, at 12noon, with the hashtags #UofTStrike and #StrikeCountdown and let’s show our solidarity in online spaces as well as on U of T’s campuses!

2. Mark your calendars for the #StrikeCountdown Rally to support our Bargaining Team on their last day of conciliation. Your attendance at this rally is crucial in gaining as much leverage at the table as we possibly can for our Bargaining Team.

When: Wednesday, 7 February at 12pm
Where: Outside Simcoe Hall, 27 King’s College Circle
What: Rally to support our Bargaining Team on their final day of conciliation with the Employer, with food, chanting, and to fight for the best possible deal!

If you require any accommodations to attend this rally, please contact vc1@cupe3902.org by Friday, 2 February at 12pm to make any necessary arrangements.

3. Tune in for a live update next week! Following the success of our Virtual Town Hall on Bargaining last week, we will be holding the next Virtual Town Hall on Bargaining on Tuesday, 30 January from 5:30-6:30pm. Please watch emails for a sign-up link to enable your attendance at this town hall.

In solidarity,
Megan
