During the 2017-18 round of collective bargaining, the University and CUPE 3902, Unit 3, agreed to establish an Employee and Dependent Special Circumstances Fund (EDSCF), in the amount of $50,000 per year to be held and administered by the University.

The EDSCF is intended to address urgent special circumstances resulting in financial hardship for Unit 3 bargaining unit employees and their dependents, as a result of medical and non-medical needs.

Through a collaborative joint process, the University and CUPE 3902 Unit 3 have developed criteria and an application process for approval of claims and disbursement of funds. Furthermore, the University and the Union have agreed to jointly adjudicate and administer non-medical applications for assistance under the EDSCF.

Information regarding specific criteria and the application process is available at: http://benefits.hrandequity.utoronto.ca/special-circumstances-fund/.

With the introduction of the EDSCF, retroactive claims submitted by October 15, 2018 will be accepted for the period of January 1, 2018 to August 31, 2018.

Applications are now open for the 2018-19 academic year.
